I also found the original ad for my Santa's holiday mail bag:
It was from 1961 Montgomery Wards retailing for 75 ¢.
"Let jolly St. Nick collect mail outside, indoors. Weather resistant felt. Imported."
I could not imagine putting something made out of felt outside?!
You must check out the site I found this on: Christmas.musetechnical. It has Christmas, spring/summer, and fall/winter catalogs dating back to 1940 until fairly present. Each catalog has thumbnail pages making it easy to navigate to what kind of items you are most interested in. I enjoyed even looking through the 1980s catalogs finding things I still have from my childhood or things I had longed for.
