Cleaning Week: Spic and Span

I saved the best for last!
I got this amazing Spic and Span empty box from the Proctor and Gamble estate sale.
Behold all of it's glorious sides!

This stuff does it all!
I wish it had some product left in the box!

 I LOVE that whale!
As you can see I got a big box full of old cleaning products from the Proctor and Gamble Rep estate sale.
 There was a bunch more there too!  My total for all?  Only 6 bucks!

Cleaning Week: Sal Soda

To finish out Cleaning Week here on MHiCTy I present these 2 boxes full of Sal Soda!
So cute!  And I may chisel out some of the product to try out one day!
Mr. Husband bought these from ebay for for me for Christmas last year.

Cleaning Week: It's O.K. Washing Powder

 Is this not hilarious!?
The soap for the sad sacks.
My washing powder....It's o.k.
I got this from the Proctor and Gamble estate sale as you can see.
It still has the powder in it but it's become a solid mass.
I'm O.K. with that... I guess.

Cleaning Week: Ivory Liquid Detergent

I got this rusty garbled can of Ivory Liquid detergent (empty) from the Proctor and Gamble estate sale.
The best part is it still has it's Free Steak Knives attached!

 "Stainless" has failed after being taped to an old rusty bottle for decades.

 The art work and layout of this box is devine!

Cleaning Week: Ivory Bar

It's a bit bedraggled for an Evening in Paris.

Cleaning Week: Chipso Flakes

This vintage box of Chipso flakes was a gift from Mr. Husband.

It's still full of "chips"!

Cleaning Week: Tide

Another vintage Proctor and Gamble item with the soap still in the box.
The back is a little too 70's for me though.

Cleaning Week: Thrill Dish Soap

This week happens to the official week of Spring cleaning!
Every housewives' super power!
Every day til Friday I will be sharing a couple of vintage cleaning products that I have come across over the past year.  Most were bought at an estate sale where the owner used to be a rep for Proctor and Gamble back in the day.

I start you off with one of my favorites~ Thrill Soap!
Now....it's not the pink version as I "loved" as a child but it's still pretty cool!

 Make yourself some Thrill Earrrings in the peach variety if you like!

Cleaning Week: Cinch Spray Cleaner

Here is another vintage product package I got from the Proctor and Gamble Rep estate sale.
I love the color of the bottle!

Cleaning Week: Such a Thrill!

Yes, it's just such a thrill to wash dishes isn't it?!

This vintage brand of dish soap has always given me a chuckle.  It's also a bit of an inside joke that my mom and I had.  We loved to extra hate on pink dish soap.  I can't remember it's origin story but growing up, us and fam all had pink dish soap because it was cheap.... but it sucked something awful.  Weak suds and even weaker cleaning.  She and I would just randomly shake our fists at the sky and exclaim with anger "Pink Dish soap!".   After several years this dish soap disappeared from the shelves leaving us with just plain old dish soap that worked.  But we still carried on with our joke for decades.  Shopping at the grocery store we would peruse the selection of soaps and comment on the lack of pink dish soap like it was a elite specialty item.  We shifted out pure hate into a sarcastic appreciation and it always made us laugh.

As an ending to Cleaning Week I thought it would be fun to do a little craft, something to fancy ourselves up after a long week of scouring, something of a commemorative "badge".

A nice pair of Thrill earrings!

Print out the thrill bottle from either image in this post in your preferred size.  Mine are 2 1/2 inches...I like my earrings big and gaudy! Next cut out and glue your images down to thicker paper like poster board or scrapbook paper.  Next coat the image in something that will make the ear rings more substantial and protected.  I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.  After they have fully dried it's up to you how you want them to hang.  You could just glue a flat stud earring base on to the back near the bottle tip.  I wanted mine to be dangly so a glued a loop of jewelry beading wire on the back and above the bottle tip.  I then painted some thrifted ball earrings in nail polish to match.  Lastly just slip on the wire loop over the earring post and wear!

Here is a photo to help show how I made these.  The Dimensional Magic made the single layer of poster board curve so I added an addition piece of poster board to the back to help flatten the bottle.  This also covered the hot glued bit of wire as well.  I am going to eventually add a bit of decorative scrap book paper to fancy up the poopy looking backs!

Cleaning Week: Skilcraft Cleaning Cloths

Here is a handy dandy set of cleaning cloths to get you moving in all the right directions!
 They even come in this reusable storage pocket system...worth 25 ¢ !

Four different cloths saturated in G.E. Silicone and "other chemicals" to make housework easier!
Sounds legit to me!  Let's get to cleaning, just don't mind the fumes or your skin mutating.

First you got your Furniture cloth.  "Dust absorbing", don't worry about what that means.

Next you get the Window Cloth.  Works wonders!  Use without any soap, water, or sponges.  "Sanitized" must be code for "Other chemicals".

Shoe Shine Mitt.
For all leather goods.  Well, we can skip this pouch.  Who has any leather luggage etc. anymore?  Everything is plastic, fabric, or "manmade materials" now.

Silver Copper-Brass
This cloth has got it all!  Chemically treated, sanitized, built-in anti germ...

It doesn't sound like such a good idea to me to polish your silverware with this chemical laden thing and then eat off them.

I picked this gem up at an estate sale a couple of years ago for 5 bucks.  The graphics are really where it's at.  I am sure all the "Sanitized" has evaporated decades ago thus rendering the cloths unable to do their assigned duties.  I really just have this hanging on the wall near my kitchen to give the illusion that I've got this whole cleaning thing all figured out.

Cleaning Week: Simoniz Floor Wax

As part of our National Cleaning Week celebration I present one of my favorite vintage 1959 cleaning solution container decor pieces.  It's perfection (other than that gouge across the namesake)!  I love the colors, the prim perfect housewife, and it's "Professional Quality" seal used by professional waxers claim!

Here are a couple of vintage Simoniz ads featuring snazzy ladies with their shiny floor lustre!

Could you care less about your floors?

No waxy build up here!

Cleaning Week: The newest, the best, Can't be beat!

{Better Homes and Gardens Nov 1956}

I scoured through a big stack of my vintage house keeping magazines and found a few cleaning week related ads for today.  In the above Soilax ad it appears that this housewife likes to mop at night with a flashlight attached to her sponge mop, or either that she is mopping the floor of a coal mine.

{Good Housekeeping  Nov 1951}

250,000 housewives can't be wrong!  That's right!  We are right about everything.  Oh, they can't be wrong about Dishmaster.  Hmmm... I agree with the initial claim.

{Better Living Magazine Feb 1955}

I am in love with this cutie lady and the overall illustration styling.  Look at that sassy peplum apron!  Her cute 'hitting the town' hat and gloves!

{Good Housekeeping July 1948}

Again the precious graphics!  Cutie thimble lady.  Glim is sneeze-free?  I guess the flakes would make people sneeze. huh.

{Good Housekeeping Nov 1946}

I included this ad because I LOVE display racks 5 and Dime style.  Other than that Kellogg can get back to making corn flakes.

National Cleaning Week

Did you know there is an official week for Spring Cleaning?  Me neither.  But this is the week!

Best grab your favorite cleaning apparatus and get busy.  You may have gotten away with not falling in line with the nationally sanctioned dirt busting from past years but you never know when that white glove may come a'swiping!

If you have a real mess on your hands...hoarder style, grab yourself a rake and a shovel!
If you just have a few dust bunnies breeding under the bed then sic the vacuum on them!

We got to get on this!  National cleaning week only happens once a year and this is our time to shine!  Shine those sink faucets I mean!

For the next week I am going to be featuring vintage cleaning ads, materials, and other sanitized themed fun for those moments you are taking a break from waxing, washing, and polishing...or eating bon bons and watching your soaps.
