National Clean your Fridge Day 2019

It's November 15th, National Clean Your Fridge Day!

It's time to get the dredges out of the drawers and the slop off the shelves!
I have "celebrated" this holiday a few times on MHICTY (see:  Fridge Day 2018 and Fridge Day 2016).   For this year's celebration I scoured through my vintage owners manuals to present this gem for you!
The Westinghouse Refrigerator Manual 1951 for Model:DD9  Serial No: 273904.

So many cute graphics and photos!
Love the poultry igloo!
Polar Polly is the little fridge sprite seen here helping Mother with her 5 pound block of butter.

Polar Polly has an ongoing romance with your fridge.  If the kitchen lights are out, it's best to just leave them alone.  Check out the cool slender drawer for extra ice cubes!

Ladies!  Now that the fridge doesn't need defrosting you should have nothing else to do every day but enjoy a leisurely sprawl on the couch!

But for you poor souls that have to defrost...Life is gonna be tough!
I didn't realize tongs should be used to remove ice from the Select-O-Cube Tray...

I love vintage fridge butter keepers.  They would keep butter at a temp to make spreading easy.  Modern fridges have a butter bunker but it doesn't do anything!

 Again, with the tongs!
Fridges back then had features that made sense.  A 'Meat Keeper' drawer was a sanitary way to keep fresh raw meats away from other foods and remained at a temperature just above freezing.  Most meats could be stored this way for 2-5 days.  Not unless your storing your cow tongue or pig brains in there, then you only got 48 hours max!

A clean and well organized inspirational fridge!
Polly knows you're jealous.

If I had vertical egg 'keepers' those eggs would not stay vertical long.
They would be flying horizontally out every time the fridge door got yanked open!

"Automatic Door Closer:  Door stays open at position (A).  Closes automatically with a slight push of hand or elbow, even when both hands are full."... replaced in modern time by my foot!

The back cover of the manual. That Polar Polly sure does invite herself over quite a bit!
She's gotta keep an eye on her Freddie Fridge.  He used to have an ice crush on Betty Blender.

Time to hop to it ladies and get that fridge dumped and cleaned!  Gotta make room for rutabaga dumplings, pickled pigs feet, and durian pie, tis the season!

Man, they sure don't make things like they used to!

A shame, too. I certainly wouldn't mind a butter keeper or a meat drawer!

my house is cuter than yours said...

Things back then just made sense. I don't need a wifi tv on my fridge, I need my butter to be spreadable!!!!
