Kind Of A Big Dill: Teacher Appreciation Week 2015

Wrapping up the Teacher Appreciation Week posts by showing the banner I made for the hall.

The teachers really loved everything and so did the kids.  That was my goal, fun for everyone.  A lot of work for me though!

Fan"Stache"tic Teacher! Teacher Appreciation Week 2015

Our last theme we did was "Our Teachers are Fan"Stache"Tic!"
Get it?...Fantastic and Mustache.
I made the above badges for the teachers to wear. All the kids (and teachers) got fake mustaches to wear for the day.

I made books for the teachers with the kid's faces on each page. I then had the kids write why they think each teacher is fan-stache-tic! I told them to also draw a mustache on their faces...some went a bit overboard and turned themselves into Sasquatch.

I made some fan-stache-tic banners for their desks.

I also made each teacher a coffee mug with a couple of mustache styles.  When they drink out of the mugs, the mustaches should appear to be on their faces. The image I saw on pinterest showed everything to work out that way....
Lastly, each teacher got a Starbucks gift card to try their new mugs out with.

Viva Los Teachers! Teacher Appreciation Week 2015

Cinco De Mayo falls during Teacher Appreciation Week this year so I decided to work that into the daily themes!  I came up with:
Viva Los Teachers!
Seen above are little paper badges I made for the kids to wear.  I also turned the teachers into mariachi dancers!

I made little banners* for the teacher's desks.

This is one of the cards I made and had all the kids sign.  We got the teachers a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant for them to have their own "fiesta"!

In the afternoon, the kids are going to have a Toast to their teachers. I had them work in groups to write poems about each of their teachers.  They will all be raising their cups in their teacher's honor and reciting their poems to them.  I got special cactus glasses for the teachers to have during the event.
The kid's are also going to be each bringing in a flower, greenery, ...something on a stick, to place in a vase for each teacher.

We will then round out the afternoon with churro cupcakes for everyone!
These are cinnamon cupcakes (from a box) with cream cheese icing (from a tub).  I then sprinkled cinnamon and festive colored sprinkles on the top along with a little churro snack (from a bag) to the side.

*I found the prinatable feista banner here. I added the text though.

Thanks For Making Us Smart Cookies! Teacher Appreciation Week 2015

It's Teacher Appreciation Week!
I thought I would share what I have going on for PB's teachers.
Today's theme is
Thanks for making us Smart Cookies!
For the day, the kids and the teachers get to wear little badges (seen above) and nerd glasses (seen all the way on the top photo)!
I made little banners to hang on the teacher's desks.

In the afternoon, we will be having a "Cookie Conference".  I had all the kids write out report cards on their teachers with such subjects as "Excels at:" and "Needs improvement in:".  We will then all share some scrumptious cookies while a possible conference or two (stemming from the comments on the report card) takes place!

I am bringing in a cookie recipe that I have never made before.  Peanut butter oatmeal cookies!  They are so good that I think they may be my favorite of all time! Mine turned out looking like ground turkey meatballs but tastes like peanut butter paradise!

This is the Report Card I came up with.  Just print it on manila colored paper.
The 'nerd glasses' are 3D movie glasses with the lens popped out.

RecipE:
  • 3 cups minute oats
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 4 tbsp (1/2 Stick) salted butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  1. Combine sugar, butter, and milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stirring occasionally, bring to a boil and let boil for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in oatmeal, peanut butter, and vanilla.
  4. Stir until mixture starts to thicken and plop quickly onto wax paper.
  5. Let cool for at least an hour.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

This past week has been teacher appreciation at PB's school.  Each day I sent a different dessert/treat in for his teacher with a little note attached from PB.  The notes generally had a funny reference to what the dessert was such as with the No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies, the note said "More fiber than a No. 2 pencil!"
For Friday, there is a teacher luncheon and parents were asked if they could send in a dessert.  So I took that advantage to bake something with coconut and made a Coconut Pineapple Cake.

To keep the saran wrap from sticking to the frosting I was going to just stick plain toothpicks all over the cake, but then I thought why not make them be functional and work with the theme!
I found an image of a vintage school teacher with a chalkboard on the nets.  I then used a White Out pen to write the note on the "chalkboard".  I also found images of old Pink Pearl erasers and printed all out on cardstock, hot glued to bamboo skewers and arranged in the cake.
I am sure happy with how it looks....just hope it tastes as great!
I just relized that the quote on the chalkboard may be a bit misleading... Kinda like "Let's eat Grandma!" no, "Let's eat, Grandma"....commas save lives.  For clarification, Cook is the name of the school.... not let's cook the teachers!
(You can find the images I used on my pinterest.)

teacher appreciation

"Our Teacher is Dino-mite!"

last week for teacher appreciation i did several cute projects with pumpkinbutt and his class.
the first was a dinosaur and flowers theme of "our teacher is dino-mite".  i made a corsage (seen above) for the teacher to wear. it is comprised of the finest flowers and dinosaurs from $ tree and some scrap book paper from joanns.   i also decorated a thrift store vase to match and the kids brought flowers to put in it.

the next theme was "we are so fortunate to have you as a teacher".  i bought a large plain plastic take out box from michaels and Chinese food-ified it . i decorated the front with a print-out in a "chinese takeout" font and glued chop stick wrappers along the edge.  inside were long strips of paper (fortune-like) with dragons stamped on the ends where the children wrote why they like their teacher or something they learned from her.  we called them "fortunates". i also sent in some fortune cookies for the whole class to share.

the last theme was "we are nuts about our teacher".  i decorated a plastic tub with a cute squirrel with nuts image and asked that the kids bring in nut related items to give to her....candy with nuts, mixed nuts, circus peanuts...anything with nuts. one kid put in a picture of george washington carver! i made some chocolate covered peanuts that we put in a little brown paper bag with an image of a peanut that pumpkinbutt glued googly eyes on.

on the classroom door we continued with the nut theme.  i had the kids color an image of a squirrel with an acorn and some clusters of nuts. i rolled long sheets of newsprint and hot glued it to the background in a tree and branch shape and then attached their colorings.
on the tree i added a carving with the teachers initials.
the kids and i had a really good time making and planning the week and the teachers really loved it!
