Scrap Crafty~ little shrine

It seems it's required of us artsey craftsey types to do certain projects, like record bowls, marble magnets and altoid tin shrines. I've had this little shrine waiting to be finished for about a year now..Really sad. Well, I motivated myself to finish it up today so I would have something fun to post about, and I guess it's also Scrap Crafty as well. I did my little shrine about unusual vintage foods..Imagine that..ha ha , no real surprise there! I made it to look like a refrigerator with little magnets on the front.
Then the inside has shelves and little plates of food. I want to be that lady in the shrine..I want to look like her, I want her figure, I want that dress and apron! (sigh!)

I got all of the images from old cookbooks and booklets and sized and color copied them at office depot. I put a magnet on the back so I can put it on the real fridge for display.
I do have a fairly large project I am working on this week, if it doesn't flop, I will post about it this weekend.

I love love LOVE pocket shrines! I haven't done one for awhile - you have motivated me to gather up some tiny goodies and make one this month. I especially like how the food in yours has a 3-dimensional quality to it - you are fabulous!

I went and bought Altoids so I can make this! I wonder if anyone will think I'm strange if I carry them around in a plastic baggie so I can make a shrine now! LOL

My question is did you have to sand it before you apinted it and did you use spray paint?

my house is cuter than yours said...

oh so sorry for not writing up a how-to! yes, you need to lightly sand the outside and use spray paint. If you don't want the inside to get any over-spray you might want to tape it off with masking tape. and he he.. all my altiods are in a ziplock bag too. I actually don't really like altoids, I'm more of a cinnamon ice breakers gal. Which, by the way, those tins (with the plastic lid removed) make neat little open shrines, just put a magnet on the back!

OMG! I love you. I love your work. I love you AND your work! (ok, really bad will & grace reference) Great Blog! I'm looking forward to reading more, but I just wanted to say hi & thanks for giving me a use for all my mint tins! I've seen little scrapbooks put into the tins, but this is wayy cute!

That is flippin' cool. There is something about shrines and altars that I love. In advanced sculpture at my local college, that's one of the requirements (I haven't taken the class yet). I guess I gravitate to these because they might me cathartic, they might be memories...they speak volumes. I've also seen altoids boxes with mosaic'ed lids, using little beads and tiny bits of broken plates. Also on my 'to do' list.

I usually really don't like pocket shrines, I'm not sure why, but I LOVE yours.
And I feel the same way, I would kill to look like the woman, the body, the clothes, the hair.
But then again, I would kill to look like you too! You're stunning!
