Scrap Crafty~T-shirt reconstruction

My newest sewing project is taking my old cool HUGE t-shirts and reconstructing them into more figure flattering tops. This Descendents 1997 tour shirt was like a tent for two.. I didn't take any before pics of it... sorry, just trust me. For the pattern I laid another top that I liked the style of over the large tee and went to cutting away. I am fairly happy with the results and it didn't take but a few hours to make . I have 2 other shirts that are on the cutting table, only not being made into halters. A girl needs choices, right? Here I am as casual gal! I can't wear my heels and pearls all the time!

I love clothing re-cons! I am just too chicken to try any myself. Maybe I should go get a few thrifted tees for practice.
Yours is SO cute, as usual.

That is so cute, and a clever idea! If I didn't insist on covering my upper arms at every moment of the day, I'd wear shirts like that.

I wish I hadn't been such a cheapie at concerts and actually bought the t-shirts way back when! Though I probably would have just chucked em by now 'cause they were always so honking big - I certainly wouldn't have been clever enough to repurpose them the way you are with yours!

Brilliant idea!

that looks great! No matter how much I sew I just can't seem to do anything with clothing. I can make doll dresses all you want but give me something of my daughters to hem and it is a big mess! I can't wait to see the other ones!!

Loving the reinvention of the tent T-shirt; I usually resew mine, too, but just into a smaller tee. I like this idea way better. Did you use any elastic around the top edge, or is the jersey knit with the strap enough to keep from droopiness?

No fair! I didn't think about that with my old cool t-shirts. I could have reconstructed my "You Can't Lick Our Cocks" (USC gamecocks) shirt. Now I can't even buy one.

Good idea! I'll have to remember it. Thanks!

what a great idea and so friggin' cute on ya!

now where did you cut on the original shirt? did you cut the seams on the side and then just resew them?

a little bit on the how-to(i would have taken pics along the way but didn't know if it was going to work out and didn't want proof of my disaster to remind me):
i laid the large shirt down flat, then cut up the sides and cut off the sleeves. next i laid a my well fitting shirt on top and pinned them together. cut around leaving a seam allowance. did the same for the back of the shirt. since it is a white shirt and i can no plans on wearing a bra, i made a double thick area from part of the scraps in the boobage area. i think this helps for any 'droopiness' sarah had asked about. next i stitched side seams together and did any hemming needed. i made the straps from more of the scraps and just stitched them on .

hope that helps!

ps... what's up with the wheelchair man next to the word verification?

Love the shirt. Why oh why did I buy all my concert T-shirts in size XL when I was a kid.

Have you seen all the new and exciting T-shirt books out? Seems like there are tons. I am partial to Tease : Inspired T-shirt Transformations by Superstars of Art, Craft, and Design.
